Written by Lea Chatham | Mar 28, 2024 2:30:00 PM

The month was indeed eventful. Conference season was in full swing with HIMSS 2024 so there were big announcements, new research releases, and plenty of conversation to be had.

Here's a brief recap of things you might have missed.

Adopting New Technology
Near the beginning of the month, Healthcare IT Today published an article, Home-Based Care Provides Powerful Example for Harnessing Technology Across the Care Continuum. This discussed the use of technology through all points of care and showed how digital channels support clinical decision-making and deliver patient-centered care.

Communication and the Patient Experience
Patient Engagement HIT released a new article, Healthgrades: Communication, Patient Experience Sway Recommendations. An online resource for patients, Healthgrades examined leading practices to learn about the patient experience. Their findings showed that hospitals looking to improve their reputation should focus on patient/doctor communication.

Data Insights for Patient Engagement
Our partner, Luma, recently published a new guide about proven strategies for better patient experiences. The resource, A Guide to Patient Success through Data, offered real-life data from actual health systems showing what strategies improved patient engagement.

Telehealth Modernization Act of 2024
Ever since the pandemic, telehealth services have become increasingly popular in healthcare. MHealthIntelligence published Bipartisan Lawmakers Present Bill to Solidify Telehealth Flexibilities covering a new bill to make these services a mainstay. This legislation would solidify services that were initially set to expire this December.

Staff Engagement and Limiting Burnout
Reducing Burnout Requires Giving Health Care Workers More Control Over Their Time from MedCity News explored the root cause of employee burnout and its impact on patients. The piece found that most hospital workers are tired of the long hours and the wasted time between appointments. MedCity believes the solution may be in newer tech, like AI-powered documentation or mobile apps that can notify employees in real time.

Patient Engagement at HIMSS 2024
This year's HIMSS conference was eventful. One publication covering the event was Healthcare Innovation. In Frank Discussion of the Challenges of Achieving Automation at Scale, Healthcare Innovation broke down a panel from HIMSS that focused on the challenges and potential of automation. It was an interesting read that gave a new viewpoint on the event.

Staffing Retention
Staffing shortages are a common challenge in healthcare. But a new article, Nurses Report Wage and Staffing Dissatisfaction, shows there may be hope after all. Fierce Healthcare reviewed a new report from The State of U.S. Nursing. The report surveyed over 3,300 nurses currently working in a hospital setting. The results showed that nurses still desire to work despite wage and staffing issues.
